Membership Information

Membership in the MHHDA is voluntary. It is a parent-run organization managed by annually elected executive members. The membership year runs from Sept. 1 to August 31 of the subsequent year. Membership fees are $40.00 for an individual membership, $25.00 for each additional dancer per family, and $20.00 for non-dancing member. Dancers over age 16 are required to have their own membership.

Membership in the MHHDA offers the following benefits:

  • friendship and support from other parents of Highland Dancers
  • eligibility to participate in competitions at a reduced rate
  • networking for costume exchanges and kilt making workshops
  • workshops sponsored by the association
  • eligibility to apply for funding to support Highland Dancing as per committee guidelines
  • opportunity to participate in decision making about the events related to Highland Dancing.

Meetings are held approximately every two months as determined by the executive.

The MHHDA also sponsors dance workshops, social events for dancers and families, kilt-making workshops and opportunity to participate in dance tours. In the summers of 2003, 2008, 2012 and 2016, dancers and MHHDA members went to Scotland to compete in competitions, attend dance workshops and complete medal tests with instructors from Scotland. Other trips have been sponsored for dancers to attend Celtic college in Nova Scotia and dance in other provinces.
